“A CARDIOVASCULAR EVENT SHOULD BE REGARDED AS A MEDICAL FAILURE RATHER THAN THE FIRST INDICATION FOR THE NEED TO TREAT” - W.B.Kannel

Thirty six percent (36%) of all deaths in the US are due to cardiovascular diseases (CVD) and one out of every six is under age 65.

Medical science knows of several factors that are correlated with the development of premature cardiovascular disease. These are called risk factors. The more risk factors present in an individual, the greater is the risk for that individual to develop premature cardiovascular disease.

Atherosclerosis (Arteriosclerosis) is the process that causes the large majority of cases of cardiovascular disease (CVD). CVD is the #1 killer in developed countries.

Atherosclerosis is a process that begins as early as fetal life. The progression of the atherosclerosis is silent until the caliber of one of the arteries becomes small enough to compromise the flow of blood to a specific organ at which time cell death occurs.

The process of atherosclerosis encompasses the narrowing and hardening of the arteries by the formation in the arterial wall of a complex of lipids (fats), various cell types from the blood and fibrous tissue. These complexes are called plaques and can be unstable, break off, and deposit themselves in smaller blood vessels further compromising blood flow. The more extensive this process is in an individual, the greater the risk that they will suffer a cardiovascular event (heart attack, stroke, etc.)

People that develop this process at a fast rate and have a cardiovascular event in young to mid adulthood (prematurely), do so because of genetic factors. A multitude of other factors, such as the presence of other diseases or a variety of environmental factors can add to the genetic risk factor in the acceleration of the atherosclerotic process.

A variable combination of these risk factors have been used for decades, in various algorithms, attempting to define the risk of suffering cardiovascular events in non symptomatic individuals (risk analysis and stratification).

The My heart risk algorithm is the only one that takes all pertinent, well researched risk factors into account. This allows for a more accurate risk analysis. The staff of Genomics To Health continually upgrades the algorithm as new scientific data becomes accepted by the health care community.

Membership

Make your heart happy like Harry

Membership in “myheartrisk” provides the member with a CVD risk analysis which includes stratification of the risk for a CVD event over a 30 year period and comparison to the expected risk in the general population for the same gender and age. It also provides the ability to produce print outs of personal health status that can be shared with health care providers, expert suggestions regarding the modification of risk factors and the ability to interactively monitor their CVD preventive approach. To learn more click here   or on the membership tab at the top.
